Commission recommends R‑A zoning for Staten Road parcel to allow Family Ties subdivision

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commission voted Jan. 26 to recommend rezoning approximately 5.7 acres on Staten Road from Estate‑Agricultural (E‑A) to Residential‑Agricultural (R‑A) to allow a Family Ties subdivision.
Lowndes County Planner JD Dillard presented REZ‑2026‑01, saying the property is within the Rural Service Area and Agricultural character areas and that well and septic viability and neighboring lot sizes support R‑A zoning. Dillard told the commission the Technical Review Committee analyzed the request against ULDC standards (including ULDC 10.01.05) and recommended approval. Applicant Bryttanee Howard said the parcel had been gifted to her by her father and she intends to put her residence on the property.
No members of the public opposed the rezoning. Commissioner Ed Hightower moved to recommend approval as presented by staff; Commissioner Chris Webb seconded. The motion carried 8‑0.
