Jefferson County commissioners voted to approve a contract authorizing the county to guarantee 50 beds for the Idaho Department of Corrections.
An agency official explained the contract terms at the meeting and said, “This contract is guaranteeing us beds, so not inmates. So we'll get paid the same amount every month,” and noted the daily payment rate discussed was $75 per inmate. The presenter also said the county currently houses 51 inmates and described how guaranteed-bed payments will affect monthly revenue.
Commissioner-level members moved and seconded the motion; the clerk called the roll and the measure passed unanimously. The board directed the chair and clerk to complete signatures on the contract at the meeting.
