County reports building-reuse grants and compliance filings; BCED says progress reports submitted to state

Susan Squires reported Beaufort County administers three building reuse grants (Project Sprinter $200,000; Project Event $25,000; Project Well-Being $200,000) and that December 2025 progress reports were submitted to the North Carolina Department of Commerce to maintain compliance.
During the BCED update Susan Squires reviewed the county’s active grant portfolio and compliance work. “Our office currently administers several grant projects, including a $200,000 Building Reuse Grant for Project Sprinter (Elite Truck), a $25,000 Retail Building Reuse Grant for Project Event (Hometown Hall), and a $200,000 Rural Health Building Reuse Grant for Project Well-Being (Agape Health Clinic in Aurora),” she said.
Squires said the office completed and submitted the December 2025 progress reports to the Department of Commerce to ensure all grants remain in compliance with reporting requirements, and she noted staff continue to explore additional grant opportunities to support county infrastructure improvements.
The advisory committee did not take formal action on these grants at the meeting; Squires presented the update as routine administration and compliance work.
