Cumberland County Board moves into closed session to interview prospective employee; reconvenes and certifies no action taken

On a motion by Supervisor Paul Stimpson, seconded by Supervisor Bryan Hamlet, the Board of Supervisors entered closed session on Jan. 8, 2026 to "consideration and interview of prospective candidate for employment" under the personnel exemption in Virginia Code § 2.2-3711.A.1. The motion carried by recorded vote.
The Board later reconvened in open session and adopted the certification required by Virginia Code § 2.2-3712, affirming that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed and that no action was taken while in closed session. The minutes record the certification language and note the board's unanimous adjournment to the next monthly meeting on Jan. 13, 2026.
