Samantha Tuttle and Shawnna Lutes, representing the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP), asked the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors to declare October 2024 Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The board approved signing the proclamation by motion of Meek, seconded by Richards.
The proclamation recounts the harms of domestic abuse, notes that one in three Americans has witnessed an incident of domestic violence, and states that "we, the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim the month of October 2024 to be: Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Van Buren County, Iowa, and urge all people to work together to eliminate domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking from our community." The board voted aye on the proclamation; it was recorded as signed Sept. 23, 2024.
