Beaufort County wins $1.25M IDF grant; Wooten Company selected for road and utility project

Susan Squires, delivering the BCED update to the Beaufort County Economic Development Advisory Committee, said the Washington–Beaufort County Road and Utility Infrastructure Project is moving forward. “We have received an IDF grant ($1,254,675) to support the project (total estimated cost $1,672,900),” she said, and added the work will open approximately 35 acres for industrial development.
Squires told the committee that, following last month’s RFQ process, “The Wooten Company was selected to provide design, engineering, and grant administration services.” She said the county is awaiting a contract from the firm; once executed the contract will be presented to the Board of Commissioners for approval. She said the project is expected to be completed later this year and that the county anticipates the infrastructure will help attract industrial growth to the site.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the contract at the meeting; Squires’ update framed the next step as Board review and potential approval. Commissioner Ed Booth presided over the meeting, which adjourned at 3:50 PM.
