Van Buren supervisors approve resolution to dispose of three county parcels; sealed bids postponed

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 23 approved Resolution #09-23-2024A authorizing the disposal of interests in three county-owned parcels described as Auditor's Parcels A, B and C. The board voted unanimously to approve the resolution after a short public hearing that produced no comments.
County Auditor Lisa Plecker told the board she had consulted Assistant County Attorney Thomas Gage about the notice and bidding procedure. According to the meeting record, Gage advised that "the public hearing could move forward as scheduled because notice of the hearing was published as per Iowa Code Section 331.305; however, the submission and review of sealed bids to purchase the properties would need to be postponed until the county has complied with the requirements of Iowa Code Section 306.23." The resolution directs the board to determine buyers and complete the sealed-bid process at a future meeting after compliance with Iowa Code §306.23.
The resolution notes Van Buren County acquired the parcels by quit claim deed recorded in 1963 and states it is no longer necessary for the county to retain the described property. The auditor's office said interested parties may request the full text of Resolution #09-23-2024A during regular business hours.
