The Beaufort County Board of Health voted Jan. 20 to revise Section 3.B of its operating procedures to clarify how members and members of the public request items be placed on meeting agendas. Health Director JaNell Octigan proposed replacing the existing multi‑sentence guidance with a single line requiring a written request be received "by the Board Secretary at least six business days before the meeting." The motion to adopt the change was made by Marcus Jones and seconded by Kirk Harris; the board approved it with all in favor.
Board members said the update was intended to simplify agenda administration and ensure compliance with North Carolina open meetings laws governing special or emergency meetings. The revised wording will be distributed with the handbook when the department emails the digital Board of Health handbook to members on Jan. 21.
