Sandy Creek residents press Travis County for flood‑warning gauges and sirens, ask for 60‑day plan

Brandy Gerstner, a Sandy Creek resident who also identified herself as “Mama Bee,” told the court the community is nearing one year since a major flood and many repairs remain temporary or harmful. “We are asking Travis County to prioritize infrastructure, public safety, and meaningful recovery,” Gerstner said, asking the court for a completed plan and a firm commitment within 60 days.
Auburn Gallagher, speaking after Gerstner, urged the court to install flood‑warning sirens and gauges at specific sites — Armadillo Quarry, Juniper Bridge, Big Sandy Bridge, Miller Ranch, Calhoun Ranch, River Fern Ranch and Cottonwood — and to involve residents in siting decisions. Gallagher said many residents remain displaced and that the recent re‑flooding shows mitigation measures remain inadequate.
The court did not take action on the request during the session; Judge Annie Brown closed early public comment after several speakers and moved the agenda forward. Residents asked the court to provide a timeline, procurement and contracting status, and to specify which expenditures and contracts remain outstanding.
