Russell County adopts $839,854.94 juvenile services budget for 2027

The Russell County Commission on Feb. 17 unanimously approved a $839,854.94 budget for the county's Juvenile Services Department and authorized submission of the budget to the Kansas Department of Corrections Juvenile Services. Marissa Woodmansee, Juvenile Services Director, presented the proposal and "requested approval of the 2027 fiscal budget," the minutes record.
Woodmansee, joined by Assistant Director Ryan Lichter, said the budget would support Prevention, Juvenile Intake & Assessment, the Immediate Intervention Program, Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation and Community Case Management. She told commissioners the 20th Judicial District Juvenile Services is funded by a KDOC Juvenile Services grant and that the county aligns programming to community needs; the proposed budget was prepared using figures supplied by KDOC Juvenile Services.
Chairman Duke Strobel moved to approve the 2027 budget as presented; Commissioner Dean Haselhorst seconded and the motion passed without opposition. The commission's action authorizes county staff to forward the approved budget to KDOC Juvenile Services for that grant-funded program year.
The approval completes the county's internal budget step for Juvenile Services; the department noted in-kind contributions such as donated office space for meetings. Commissioners did not record any abstentions or amendments to the motion and took no additional formal actions at the meeting regarding the program.
