Road and Bridge Department Head Kurt Demel reported to the board on Jan. 12 that staff had obtained fuel contract proposals and were preparing applications for state and federal bridge programs.
Commissioners approved purchase agreements with Pawnee County Coop (1,700 gallons of Premium Red Diesel at $2.70/gal and 1,700 gallons of Clear Diesel at $2.96/gal) and approved Golden Valley, Inc. forward-price contracts for dyed diesel (5,000 gallons at $2.959/gal), clear highway diesel (5,000 gallons at $2.959/gal), and unleaded gas (3,000 gallons at $2.559/gal). Motions for these contracts passed 3-0.
Demel reviewed eligible county bridges for the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program (2027) and the Off‑System Bridge Program (FFY 2028), noted the application deadlines of Feb. 20, 2026, and recommended commissioners consider applying for OS73 and FAS460 while noting OS63 could be repaired in-house.
