The Pawnee County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 12 to join the Rural Opportunity Zone (ROZ) student loan repayment program for calendar year 2026.
Commissioner Burdett said participation would allow local employers to offer the benefit to employees. Motion by Commissioner Miller, seconded by Commissioner Burdett, to adopt resolution 2026-R-5 carried 3-0.
The ROZ program is intended to help rural employers recruit and retain workers by offering student-loan repayment incentives; the board’s adoption formally authorizes county participation for 2026.
