Finance director Willie Carroll presented the county's financial statements and an audit update, reporting cash in various accounts totaled $19,793,926.85 and that general fund revenues exceeded expenditures by $4,923,671.98 before transfers. After a transfer to the Department of Social Services the adjusted surplus was approximately $3,828,856.69, Carroll said.
Carroll also reported that auditors were on site to pull samples for the single-audit and that staff found a sampling issue they were addressing. County manager Kermit Vaughn reviewed the budget calendar: department budget requests are due March 13, the proposed budget will be presented May 4, and the board could adopt a budget by its June meeting; staff will schedule budget work sessions in May.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the single audit timetable and revenue variances; staff said they would continue to coordinate with auditors and provide updates as the budget season proceeds.
