Supervisors reflect on 2024 progress, urge community engagement and announce tree lighting

At the close of their December meeting, Surry County supervisors reflected on the year’s accomplishments and urged residents to participate in upcoming community events.
Supervisor Hardy noted it was the board’s last official meeting of the year and said the county made meaningful progress despite controversy. "It's the last official board meeting for the year... a lot of progress made in the county," Hardy said. Supervisor Drewry used her remarks to press for greater transparency, revival of dormant committees (personnel, buildings and grounds, welcoming) and expansion of agritourism; she said openness and sustained citizen engagement build public trust.
County staff (Mister Harrison, speaking on behalf of Miss Rollins) announced a public Christmas tree lighting tomorrow at 6 p.m. in front of the Circuit Court with music and refreshments and reminded the board of a joint meeting with the school board on Dec. 18. Supervisors encouraged residents to attend the lighting and other events as a way to strengthen community ties.
The meeting adjourned, with the board noting it will reconvene for the joint meeting in mid‑December.
