Guadalupe County reinstates outdoor burning prohibition amid dry conditions

Guadalupe County commissioners moved on Oct. 1 to approve an order prohibiting outdoor burning beginning Oct. 2 and extending through Dec. 31, 2024, citing unusually dry conditions and recent fires. "Looking at the KBDI in Guadalupe County, we are at 6.37," Patrick Pinder told the court when recommending the ban.
Pinder said county fire crews have observed a rise in illegal or unattended brush burns and several grass fires; he noted one recent home fire that began from a burn barrel that spread to the residence. The order allows agricultural burns under permit and requires attended burn barrels with approved covers; unattended or spreading burns may result in citations, Pinder said. The court voted to approve the prohibition with no opposition.
