He thanked the court for prior support and detailed that rising grocery prices are increasing demand for food distributions across multiple local sites. “The support that Guadalupe County has provided to us...has made a big impact in places like Navarro,” he said.
Commissioners weighed whether to increase the judge’s recommended nonprofit contribution from $15,000 to the food bank’s requested $25,000. Several commissioners supported the food bank’s work; others raised equity questions because other nonprofits (e.g., CASA, Child Welfare Board) had also requested increases and had been recommended reduced funding. The court deferred a final decision pending follow‑up conversations and additional budget tradeoffs.
