Grant County group to introduce "The Promised Land" bronze statue at public event Jan. 31

Rick LaMountain, representing the Grant County Change Alliance, described how the bronze statue "The Promised Land" came to Grant County after being vandalized during the 2020 Portland unrest and stored in a warehouse for five years. LaMountain said the committee negotiated rehoming of the work to Grant County and invited the public to an introductory event on Jan. 31 at the Elks Lodge from 5-7 p.m., where sculptor David Manuel will present the statue's story to its new caretakers.
"The Promised Land," LaMountain said, had been a Portland fixture from 1993 until 2020 and will be introduced to Grant County residents at the Jan. 31 event. The minutes state food and drink will be available and all are invited; no county appropriation or official sponsorship was recorded in the Court minutes.
The Court received LaMountain's report as part of new business. The minutes do not record any formal action by the Court regarding the statue's rehoming, beyond accepting the informational presentation and public event notice.
