Planning commission weighs recreational zoning designation and accessory dwelling unit rules

Commissioners asked Rothe to "draw up an example of what they might look like" for Recreational Zoning and reviewed the table of permitted and conditional uses. The discussion also covered where definitions and the index would be located within the regulations. The commission did not vote or adopt changes at this meeting; the items remain under review and will be scheduled for future public hearings as the code revisions are drafted.
Rothe told the board that revised Articles will be advertised in the Newton Kansan and posted on county social media and other online resources, and that public hearings are required by Kansas statute before any adopted changes go to the Harvey County Board of County Commissioners for final approval.
