Doniphan County approves courthouse fountain replacement and $22,802 porch landing repairs

The Doniphan County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously June 8 to accept a $3,950 bid from Smith Plumbing & Small Repair to replace the courthouse water fountain and bottle filler and to award Bottorff Construction the power-cleaning contract for limestone features. Custodian Laura Winkel presented competing bids and the commission approved the lowest and best options.
The board also approved $22,802 in repair work to the courthouse north and south porch landings, to be paid from the New Sales Tax fund. The Bottorff Construction scope includes scarifying entry steps for traction, removing 1/2" to 3/4" of limestone where needed, installing a patch product and applying a three-part epoxy coating to stair landings. Commissioners cited recent slip-and-trip incidents and liability concerns in approving the work.
