Weed & Pest board secures mill levy, county expects $8.9M fire-recovery funds

District Supervisor Heather Love told the county board that the HSC Weed & Pest district had secured the signatures needed to form special management areas and recommended approval of a second mill levy to fund white-top and mosquito-management programs. Commissioners voted to approve the second mill levy.
Love also told the board she applied for Wyoming Wildlife Natural Resource Trust Fire Recovery funds allocated in the recent legislative session. She said the County’s application totals $8.9 million and that she expects a signed agreement soon. Roughly $82,000 of the anticipated funds would be used specifically for white-top management in areas affected by the Red Canyon fire; the remainder would support broader vegetation recovery actions administered over about three years depending on weather and regrowth conditions.
Commissioners questioned potential impacts to bees and spraying protocol; Love said properly timed night spraying minimizes bee impacts and that the Weed & Pest maintains a registry of beehive locations and avoids them when spraying.
