Public health staff hire noted; county warned of flu, COVID and measles activity

Public Health Nurse Manager Shawn Mohr reported that the county hired Kristin Scheuerman as a new adult health nurse and that public-health staff are providing additional rapid tests for symptomatic residents. Mohr said flu and COVID have been prevalent across the state and that there is a measles outbreak in Fremont County; he advised residents to seek testing and said prevention staff are finishing the current grant cycle and preparing the scope of work for the next grant.
Mohr also described prevention work underway, including an underage drinking campaign led by Prevention staffer Jen Cheney. When Commissioner Aguiar asked about wildlife diseases, Mohr said transmission to humans is rare except for some avian-borne illnesses and West Nile virus and recommended PPE and testing of animals when there is concern.
