Staff proposes pre-application meetings pilot; comp-plan subcommittee sets next meeting

Staff proposed establishing a monthly pre-application meeting to bring VDOT, the Health Department, emergency services, building trades and planning staff together with early applicants so that requirements, site concerns and application expectations can be addressed at once. Staff suggested the fourth Tuesday of each month for the pilot and recommended no more than one commissioner attend in an advisory role.
Commissioners discussed the benefits and the need to keep commissioner comments general at pre-application meetings to avoid appearing to pre-judge an application. The comprehensive plan subcommittee reported they will continue work on integrating goals and policies and confirmed the next meeting on May 7 at 6 p.m.
Next steps: staff to pilot pre-application meetings, circulate a proposed schedule and a short pre-application form; subcommittee will continue comp-plan integration work.
