Lee County approves $563,245 budget amendment and awards $1.25M expansion contract for General Services

Brandon Key presented the General Services expansion project, describing the need for additional office space, conference rooms and support areas and reporting the design, bids and revised cost estimate. The original CIP budget was $1,041,000; after reviewing seven bids the updated project budget is $1,604,245 and staff requested an additional $563,245 (recommended funding: $479,000 fund balance saved from prior year and $84,245 of unused ARPA interest).
Finance staff explained the fund-balance allocation and the board voted to approve the budget amendment. Commissioners then voted to accept Sanford Contractors as the lowest responsible bidder at $1,250,672 and to proceed with the project. Staff said value-engineering discussions had occurred but costs remained in line with current commercial construction-price expectations.
