Board proclaims April 2026 National Child Abuse Prevention Month; Foothills CAC highlights service costs

The Greene County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation naming April 2026 National Child Abuse Prevention Month and urged residents and organizations to support prevention and family services. The proclamation recognizes collaborative partnerships among law enforcement, social services, the Commonwealth's attorney and community organizations in the county's response to child abuse.
Amy, identified by the chair as CEO of the Foothills Child Advocacy Center, accepted the proclamation and described the center's services and funding needs. "Last year, we served 22 of your Greene County children with forensic interviews," she said, and added, "It cost us about $3,200 to provide services to one child; in fiscal year '25 your community received over $60,000 worth of services from us." She noted the center is a nonprofit and relies on grants and fundraisers to operate.
