Commissioners authorize bid package for redesigned Bertie Beach pavilion and shoreline work

Project manager Robin Payne presented Feb. 16 a revised design for Bertie Beach that reduces grading and relies on existing pavilion parking while adding an accessible pavilion, a stage and shoreline stabilization work. The design moves the dock to reduce excavation needs and uses a semi-solid surface for ADA access.
Payne said the redesign brought estimates into line with available grants and recommended issuing bid packages; she said a site meeting would be held Feb. 17 with sealed bids due Feb. 31. "So I think we're close enough in our estimates that are coming in that we can go to bid," she told commissioners. The board moved, seconded and approved authorization to issue bid packages and proceed with permitting.
Payne also said shoreline stabilization work would begin immediately with planting and log delivery and that construction permitting would proceed concurrently with the bidding process. The board approved moving forward and will receive bid results and permit updates in subsequent meetings.
