Medex seeks franchise to provide BLS/ALS and nonemergency transport in Bertie County

A local supporter (speaker 12) added that a Medex station could bring jobs, taxable vehicle purchases and training opportunities, and estimated about 10 local employees already travel to a nearby Medex office. Commissioners asked about local staffing numbers, where vehicles would be housed and whether Medex would participate in 911 dispatch; Medex representatives said some franchised counties have units dispatched on 911 but that specifics depend on local agreements.
Commissioners did not make an immediate decision; staff and commissioners requested follow-up information on proposed station locations, employee counts living in Bertie County, and how a franchise would integrate with county EMS and 911 operations.
