County updates on emergency work at Bridge 51; DNR to review plans before further repairs

Nick Creevy told the Floyd County commissioners that crews conducted emergency activity at Bridge 51 (Blackiston Mill Bridge) after a nearby dam failure, including placing fill at the bridge base and removing debris from the dam to reestablish flow. He said the Indiana Department of Natural Resources asked to review plans before the county conducts further shoring or erosion‑control work to the dam or bridge foundation.
"Once the water recedes, they will evaluate the foundation before opening the bridge back up," Creevy said. The county will post updates on the Floyd County website as engineers assess conditions and coordinate with DNR.
