Commissioners alerted to petition seeking expanded county authority to assess impact fees

Commissioner Al Knable announced a petition inviting signatures on proposed changes to Indiana law to broaden counties' ability to assess impact fees. Dale Mann explained that under current state law impact fees are allowed only for infrastructure, parks and drainage and typically must remain tied to the area where the impact occurs; the petition requests authority to assess fees for services as well.
Knable asked that county leadership present the petition and related concerns to state legislators. Commissioners did not take formal action on the petition during the meeting; the item was presented so residents could sign and to alert county leaders to the request for legislative outreach.
