Floyd County transfers parcel to Georgetown to move Lois Lane away from railroad for safety

Floyd County commissioners authorized the transfer of Parcel 22-02-03-200-397.000-003 to the Town of Georgetown to allow the relocation and expansion of Lois Lane away from adjacent railroad tracks. Nick Creevy, Building and Development Director, said the parcel is the missing piece for the town’s contiguous ownership from Wissman Road to Georgetown Lanesville Road. "The idea is expand Lois Lane. Move it away from the railroad tracks for safety concerns so they can get fire trucks and school buses back in there," Reny Keener, Georgetown Town Manager, told commissioners.
The board approved a quick claim deed and a joint resolution and authorized county staff to sign the deed outside the meeting. Commissioners said the transfer is intended to improve safety and emergency access at the location.
