Auditor: Sanford Airport Authority receives clean audit, reports $13.3 million net position increase

Joel Na, partner with Forbus Mazars, presented results of the Sanford Airport Authority audit and told the City Commission the firm found no audit findings for internal control or compliance. "I'm glad to report no audit findings that were identified in the audit," Na said during the July 27 work session.
Na said the audit included review of federal, state and grant programs and noted 2025 was the first full year the terminal operations were managed under the airport, which contributed to increased operating revenue. He reported an increase in net position of 13,300,000 and said unrestricted net position was "almost 13,000,000." Mr. Baumgart introduced the presentation and thanked auditors for their work.
Commissioners followed with procedural questions about where the audited financial statements and supplemental information appear in the meeting packet and about a representation letter that asks management to disclose any use of artificial intelligence in financial reporting. Na explained the auditors' "responsibility as auditors is only to the audited financials, not to the supplemental sections," and said the representation language reflects management's statement about any AI use rather than an auditor's independent finding.
The presentation ended with no formal action recorded at the meeting. The Commission moved on to a CDBG presentation after thanking the auditor and Airport Authority representative.
