Martin Community College reports enrollment gains, new programs and capital needs to Bertie commissioners

I'm the president of Martin Community College," she said before listing recent accomplishments: full approval for a third early college, eligibility for an Aspen Institute prize application, over $2,000,000 in recent grants to expand EMS and paramedic structures, a new LPN program and expanded physical‑therapist‑assistant offerings. Miller said spring‑to‑spring enrollment rose 13% and that the college graduated a record 214 students in May 2025, 81 of whom were from Bertie County.
Miller also flagged housing shortages for faculty, staff and out‑of‑area students as a strategic challenge and outlined a desire for a new advanced‑manufacturing building to expand welding and electrical trades training. She asked commissioners to consider the college's needs as they plan local supports and partnerships.
