Project hosts and operators framed the new arena as an economic development tool for Macon and Bibb County, saying modern facilities attract conventions, tournaments and touring acts that generate hotel stays and restaurant business.
A host on the podcast said, "Think about the millions more that it's gonna generate in tourism dollars," while project partners pointed to the site's interstate visibility and existing parking as competitive advantages. David Aiello noted the Coliseum has typically filled most weekends in season and that a new, modern arena will allow Macon to pursue events it has lost to Savannah, Augusta and Athens.
Speakers described the arena as complementary to the nearby Atrium Health Amphitheatre rather than competitive, saying indoor-versus-outdoor production needs and guarantees typically determine where promoters place shows. Project leaders argued that the new venue's flexibility — concerts, sports, conventions — will let Macon host more and varied events over the next decade.
