Treasurer: towns may make partial tax payments though statutory deadline remains Sept. 1
Summary
Greenwood asked whether Oxford County would accept quarterly tax payments. Treasurer Beth Calhoun and Finance Director Lindsay Kay said state statute prevents moving the statutory deadline earlier than Sept. 1, but towns may make partial payments before that date and staff will work with municipalities facing hardship.

Commissioner H. H. Sawin Millett reported Greenwood requested a commissioner attend an upcoming Selectboard meeting to discuss whether the county would accept quarterly tax payments.
Treasurer Beth Calhoun and Finance Director Lindsay Kay responded that state statute prevents the county from changing the statutory deadline earlier than Sept. 1, but "there is nothing preventing the towns from making partial payments earlier than that and that they are willing to work with any towns who may be experiencing hardships," according to the minutes.
