Sheriff asks to reallocate CIP funds for generators; jail shower work deferred to FY27

Chief Alicia Lindsey told the committee the Sheriff's Office is requesting reallocation of existing FY26 capital improvement funds rather than additional dollars.
"We're not asking for additional dollars. We're just asking to reallocate the current dollars and to also appropriate those funds," Lindsey said, explaining the $350,000 move will purchase and install emergency backup generators at the training academy and another Dovecrest facility to address repeated power losses.
Lindsey said the berm reclamation project cost estimates rose from a prior $350,000 estimate to about $1,069,000; she requested reallocation of $1,775,000 from the 201 Poplar jail shower renovation to fund that work. Commissioners pressed on how the jail shower need will be addressed; Lindsey said maintenance and external vendors will perform interim repairs and full shower renovations will be pursued in FY27. Committee votes forwarded item 2 with a favorable recommendation (4 ayes) and item 3 with a favorable recommendation (5 ayes).
