Allendale planning commission approves zoning text amendments, clarifies outdoor wood boiler language

The Allendale Charter Township Planning Commission voted 4-0 on June 15 to approve a package of zoning text amendments affecting existing planned unit developments, outdoor wood boiler rules and the township’s authority to impose temporary moratoria.
Chairperson Mark Adams opened and closed the public hearing on the amendments with no public comment. Commissioner Rick Westerling moved to approve the amendments with a modification to Section 470-23.22B, replacing certain words with "occupied commercial or industrial building." Bruce Zeinstra seconded the motion and the commission approved it 4-0.
The commission’s action covered the following code sections as read into the record: Section 470-12.11 (Existing Approved PUDs); Section 470-23.22A and 470-23.22B (Outdoor Wood Boilers); and Section 470-3.19 (Authority to Impose a Temporary Moratorium of Zoning Ordinance Provisions). The motion adopted a specific wording change addressing the siting or applicability of outdoor wood boilers in relation to occupied commercial or industrial buildings.
The commission did not record any public testimony on the amendments. The vote to adopt the changes was unanimous among the four members present. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.; the commission’s next scheduled meeting is July 6, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
