The Vernonia School District Board approved two new hires: Luke McCallum as a middle/high school health and physical education teacher and Juan Munoz-Sandoval as a high school math teacher. Stacey Pelster moved to approve the superintendent's recommendations and Joanie Jones seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Principal Nate Underwood discussed a slate of new electives at the high school and highlighted a CAD (computer-aided design) program that can move designs to production via 3-D printers. "There is a lot of positive energy with staff and students," Underwood said, and he gave a shout-out to staff who helped with scheduling. Board members asked follow-up questions about CTE course selection and registration access; Underwood offered to investigate those selection procedures.
