Vernonia SD 47J accepts Health/PE teacher's resignation and approves two new hires

The Vernonia School District Board accepted the resignation of VMS Health/PE teacher Ian Rogers, effective July 29, 2024, and approved two recommended hires at its Aug. 8 meeting.
Superintendent Jim Helmen said he received a resignation letter from Ian Rogers and that he had offered an exit interview that was not taken. The board voted to accept the resignation. The board also approved the superintendent's recommendations to hire Nicholas Console as the Vernonia Middle School science teacher and Denise Rowland as a K-5 behavior specialist at Vernonia Elementary School. The minutes note three remaining open positions: VHS Math, VMS/VHS Health and PE, and a new Secondary Tier 3 teacher.
Board action on personnel items was unanimous among members present. The district will proceed with onboarding for the newly approved hires and continue recruiting to fill the remaining vacancies before the school year begins.
