Chair (S1) read the resolution aloud before the motion to adopt, and the board voted unanimously to approve the superintendent’s recommended reductions.
Superintendent Jim Holmes (S2) told the board that “on May 15, the district received the state school fund repayment notice of $730,521.30,” a repayment that, combined with other revenue and expenditure changes, created a significant budget gap. The resolution directs the superintendent to implement reductions in accordance with Article 29 of the district’s collective bargaining agreement, including required notices, transfer opportunities and recall procedures.
Board members said they supported beginning cuts at the district office level to avoid cutting core instruction, career-technical education and social-emotional supports. The board also directed the superintendent to report back on implementation steps and steps taken to support affected staff, including outreach to other districts and possible benefit extensions.
