The Vernonia School District Board of Directors approved Superintendent Jim Helmen's 2024-25 goals and adopted an updated evaluation process and timeline at its Aug. 8 regular meeting.
Helmen told the board his goals are tied to the District's Continuous Improvement Plan and calibrated so each goal can be checked against systems already in place. The board voted unanimously to approve the goals. Board Chair Susan Wagner noted continued positive feedback about Helmen's leadership and cited the district focus this year, saying, "Not Me, We." The board also approved a draft evaluation process and timeline for 2024-25 and agreed to address the board's self-evaluation at the Aug. 29 workshop, with a condensed option under consideration.
The actions are procedural steps intended to track superintendent performance against the district plan rather than new policy changes. The board will circulate the approved operating documents for signature and monitor progress during the 2024-25 school year. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 12, 2024.
