Veneta pursuing half‑million green infrastructure grant to ready Hwy 126 parcel and restore wetlands

Community Development Director Kevin Urban told the Planning Commission the city is pursuing a Green Infrastructure Economic Development grant of roughly one half‑million dollars with three stated goals: make the property south of Highway 126 developable to increase the tax base, clear vegetation so the city is visible from the highway, and redo wetlands at Lot 400. Urban said the plan would include phased removal of ash trees, replanting with appropriate species to restore "Oak Savanna" habitat, removal of invasive plants, and protective fencing with signage. He also said the Oregon Department of Forestry has committed to be a partner if the grant is awarded and that one forestry representative was "particularly enthusiastic about the oak trees on the property."
Urban said the economic development committee wanted an update on the grant and he planned to attend their next meeting. The project is tied to other planning work and grant efforts the city is pursuing and would require coordination with partner agencies and consultants.
