The Community Development Committee voted to remove self-storage facilities from conditional-use eligibility in R1 and R2 zoning districts and to move conditional-use permit authority from the Community Development Committee back to the Board of Adjustment.
Staff said the change responds to a petition from the town of Somerset, where a recent self-storage proposal produced community concern. The committee approved packaging Chapter 15 changes (definitions, moratorium language, self-storage changes, and Board of Adjustment language) for an August public hearing and anticipated county-board consideration in September.
Committee members asked staff to send summary materials to towns in advance and to present materials at the Wisconsin Towns Association meeting so town boards can weigh in prior to the public hearing.
The motion to adopt the self-storage and BOA changes was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with no dissents.
