Cumberland County schools report full accreditation, urge preventive maintenance and staff retention

Dr. Schwartz told the board that Cumberland County Public Schools is fully accredited based on last year’s testing and that the high school is ranked as a distinguished school. “Cumberland County Public Schools is fully accredited,” he said, and described gains at middle and elementary levels while noting areas still below track.
He told supervisors that preventive maintenance has been underused and flagged growing maintenance costs; he said school staff will propose including two school buses in the coming budget and emphasized staff retention after other divisions secured larger pay increases. Dr. Schwartz also said the division’s finance director posted a QR code to solicit public input on the budget and that the first joint work session with the school board would be Jan. 22.
