Chris (county staff) summarized a set of DFA capital outlay grants across multiple projects, including $100,000 for El Prado Community Center roofing, $5,370,505 toward the historic courthouse renovation, $75,000 for an animal‑shelter feasibility study, $100,000 for Llano Quemado Community Center parking, and $171,258 for sheriff vehicles. Staff also described HUD funding of $1,263,000 for ADA bathroom and HVAC work for the historic courthouse.
Separately, the county accepted an SBA award (SBA HQ‑2410119) of $852,000 to equip and program Taos County’s community‑center network; the proposal includes $300,000 for repairs, $200,000 for computers, $200,000 for furniture and technology, and funds for training and outreach. Jessica Stern, who presented the tourism department grant details, also described a $500,000 tourism grant to interpret the historic courthouse interior, mural conservation and interactive exhibits. Commissioners approved the grants with staff noting coordination across construction schedules and funding timing.
