Administrators provided multiple updates to the board at the Nov. 14 meeting. VHS leadership student Charlotte Schlegel described ideas from a recent leadership conference — dress-up days, student-section cheers and incentives — and Chair Susan Wagner asked her to consult peers about serving on board-related activities. Elementary Principal Michelle Eagleson said the ODE Literacy Team expressed satisfaction with the district’s reading and writing instruction after a recent visit.
Superintendent Jim Helmen reported that the middle school, which had been identified last year as a Focus School with a five-year plan, achieved such notable growth in one year that it was removed from the Focus School list earlier than anticipated. Special Education Director Susanne Myers noted the district will add Ukeru behavior-response training (a non-restraint approach) and will provide training to a targeted group of staff.
These updates were informational; no board action was taken. Administrators said they will bring fuller reports or presentations to future meetings as work progresses.
