Vernonia seeks parent input on Integrated Guidance; to host statewide equity summit Saturday

Superintendent Jim Helmen told the board that Vernonia Schools is preparing its biennial Integrated Guidance report, required by the High School Success Act and the Student Investment Account. A parent survey to inform priorities is open through January; Helmen said 105 surveys had been completed at the time of the meeting and the final report is due April 2025.
Helmen also announced that the district will host a statewide equity summit at the K–12 building on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., after the NWRESD asked for a host district. The summit will bring statewide participants to Vernonia and is intended to inform equity work across the region. Helmen said a complete presentation on Integrated Guidance will be provided to the board when the work is complete.
The board did not take action on the report at this meeting; the survey and subsequent staff work will shape the district’s priorities for the next two years and inform the formal submission due in April 2025.
