Vernonia board rejects OSBA dues change, votes against adding PRIDE caucus and backs bylaw updates

Board member discussion focused both on fiscal impacts and representation. Concerns about #2025-01 centered on a proposed multi-year increase tied to CPI; in debate, board members said small districts would be disproportionately affected by higher dues. On #2025-02, several members objected to adding another caucus, arguing it could shift focus away from district priorities; Javoss McGuire and Stacey Pelster voiced those objections. Susan Wagner said boards should “show up for all students” and emphasized ensuring representation for underserved students.
The motions and votes were recorded in open session: a motion to conduct a hand vote on #2025-01 passed and the board registered zero votes in support; a motion to reject #2025-02 passed 6–1 (Susan Wagner voting against the rejection); and a motion to support #2025-03 passed unanimously. Amy Cieloha, who attended OSBA’s conference, summarized conference takeaways and said she takes ideas back to district practice: “God is an equal distributor of talent,” she told the board when listing memorable remarks from sessions.
