On final reading July 21 the Montgomery County Council adopted Bill 15-26 to create a property tax credit for properties owned by Habitat for Humanity affiliates that are rehabilitated and conveyed to new owners. The government operations and fiscal policy committee recommended enactment; lead sponsor Councilmember Friedson said the measure follows enabling state law and implements a county-level credit to support homeownership opportunities for households earning between 30–80% of area median income.
Friedson thanked Habitat for Humanity representatives and cited an existing pilot and a forthcoming example in Rockville; committee staff noted the bill requires annual reporting from entities that receive the credit and clarifies the period for which the credit applies. The roll call recorded unanimous support.
