Veneta adopts temporary deferral of system development charges in one meeting

The Veneta City Council on Jan. 12 adopted Ordinance No. 600 to continue a program allowing developers to defer system development charges (SDCs) until a certificate of occupancy is issued.
Community Development Director Kevin Urban described the proposal as "a continuation of a successful existing program" with minor clarifying language suggested by the city attorney. Staff recommended adoption to keep the program available to developers. The council read the ordinance and its exhibits into the record and voted unanimously (5‑0) to adopt the ordinance in one meeting.
The adopted ordinance extends the temporary deferral mechanism under VMC Chapter 13.25, preserving the practice of deferring SDC collection until occupancy in qualifying cases. City staff read exhibits into the record to ensure full documentation of the ordinance text.
