Chair Lisa Keim asked whether the county could instead set aside funds each year to avoid borrowing; Finance Director Lindsay Kay said doing so would effectively rely on Casino Funds, which have historically been used to offset the tax levy during budgeting. Treasurer Beth Calhoun told the board that directing towns to pay taxes earlier or more frequently would require a change in state statute.
Commissioners also reviewed and approved the job description for a Deputy Finance Director and authorized posting the position. Commissioner Sawin Millett said the county should avoid gaps in services while a new Treasurer is elected this year. The minutes record approval of the posting but do not specify salary or part-time/ full-time status beyond the discussion that part-time had been considered.
