Aeration project moves forward; district weighing full conduit replacement and probing possible digester leak

District staff reported progress on the plant's aeration work and several related infrastructure items at the Jan. 28 meeting of the Rensselaer County Sewer District No. 1.
Jason Wheeler said utilization plans have been approved for all contractors on the aeration project and that the first disbursement request has been submitted and is pending approval. He said start‑up of aeration tanks #3 and #4 is now slated for mid‑February; tank #2's B bay mixer is out of service and the plant is using a diesel pump to agitate mixed liquor while repairs continue.
On electrical infrastructure, the district received a proposal from AMAHA Electrical to replace the plant's medium‑voltage feeder conduit. Wheeler said the vendor's proposal could be broken into multiple sections if funds are constrained, but he favors completing the conduit run in its entirety and will work with the County Legislature to assess feasibility.
Wheeler also reported the district is investigating a possible leak in a digester membrane that may be venting methane to the atmosphere; he said further investigation is required and that commissioners will be updated at future meetings.
